I'm reading a book called "I would die for you" by the parents of BJ Higgins, a kid who had an incredable passion for Christ. The book both encouraged me and convicted me. The Lord used his story to point out my lack of passion in sharing Christ and growing in my relationship with God.
I found the book a couple days ago at a local Christian book store hidden among some big-name authors and well-known reading materal (at least among the Christian community). I had never heard of BJ Higgins. When I read the book, which included excerpts from his journals and blog postings, I was amazed that a kid so young could have such a deep grasp on God. He was sold out to Christ. He had a fiery desire to serve God wholeheartedly...to the point of death. On a mission trip to Peru, he contracted an infection that destroyed his body, but not his soul. The Lord called him home in 2005 at age 15. Had I known about BJ when he was alive on earth, I would have liked to meet him. Now, I'll have to wait until heaven. It's ok, though. There is plenty of work to do down here.
Finding BJ's book at the store was very timely because I am going on my first mission trip in just one week--a medical mission to Ecuador with the CMDA. Being a very new nurse, I am a little apprehensive about serving with a medical team in Ecuador. And after reading about the conditions BJ encountered in Peru (which is right next to Ecuador), I am a little nervous. BUT, God is good. There is nothing that I will encounter that will be out of the Lord's control. Nothing.
I am praying that the Lord will continue to Spiritually prepare me for this upcoming trip. I am praying that I will be surrendered to whatever He wants for me, and that I will be 100% sold out for Him. Throwing off everything that hinders, and the sin that so easily entangles. Lord, help me run with perseverence....the race that was marked out for me.
Praise God.
